Meet Bill

Bill Humbert has spent the last 40 years doing what he loves most, building great musicians and even greater leaders. A proud graduate of Arizona State University, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education, Bill is currently in his 26th year as Director of Concert Bands at Glendale Community College.

At GCC, Bill directs the concert band program, teaches conducting, and leads the instrumental music education program. Under his leadership, the band program has tripled in size and earned consistent state, regional, and national recognition across concert, marching, and jazz ensembles. He also teaches music education courses at Ottawa University–Arizona and serves as liaison for the Music Education Partnership between the two institutions.

Beyond campus, Bill is a sought-after clinician and adjudicator nationwide, working with concert bands, marching bands, jazz ensembles, and orchestras. He is the Founder and Director of Bill Humbert Leadership LLC, providing dynamic student leadership and team-building workshops across the country. He also founded the Arizona Leadership Conference and serves as Co-Director of the California Leadership Academy, helping young musicians grow as confident, capable leaders. In addition, Bill proudly serves as an Educational Clinician for Conn-Selmer.

Bill’s impact has been recognized with numerous honors, including Arizona Music Educator of the Year and the Careers in Music Award from the Arizona Music Educators Association, the Distinguished Band Director Award from the American School Band Directors Association, and the George C. Wilson Leadership Service Award. A Charter Member of the Arizona Chapter of Phi Beta Mu International School Bandmasters Fraternity, he has also served as President of the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association.

When he’s not on the podium or leading a workshop, Bill enjoys life in Litchfield Park, Arizona with his amazing wife, Stacy, and their energetic pups, Frankie and Murphy—who keep him just as busy as any marching season ever could.
